The structured cabling project organizes and unifies existing network cable installations in commercial or industrial buildings.
In a structured cabling project, it is essential to foresee the spaces and location of the frames and racks where the equipment and interconnection materials will be installed. The choice of location should be based on safety, number of cables, type of protectors, size of the building, physical location within the property and time to perform the work.
Structured cabling design: a case of success
In September 2020, Consultimer was selected to execute a structured cabling project within a globally recognized and reputable company in the cloud provider segment. To carry out this project, the team had to commit to delivering in 4 weeks the service for activating the white room (data hall) with the Core rooms of the Site and the activation of 5 blocks of racks with servers of end customers, which generated approximately 3500 connections at different points and 1200 fusions between rooms.
After the acceptance of both parties to start the project, the Consultimer project team immediately carried out a thorough preliminary study to divide tasks where each team could be faster and more efficient to successfully execute the project and, above all, meet the client’s needs. .
The deadline requested by the customer was approximately 4 weeks. With the scope of the project in hand and a previous study (fundamental for the success of the project) it was possible to set up a schedule that would positively surprise the client.
Thanks to the hard work of the team and partnership with the client, it was possible to deliver the project initially in 4 weeks in a record time of 15 days and with a total of 0.5% error; a work with approximately 3,500 connections at different points and 1,200 fusions between the rooms.
Project particularities
The biggest villains of IT projects in the datacenter area today are:
- High demand;
- Lack of capacity;
- Need for synergy.
The high demand from companies looking for cloud with the lack of capacity in datacenters makes the delivery times for this type of projects increasingly shorter and with a reduced margin of error. The need for synergy among the dozens of companies that serve cloud providers is critical, taking into account manufacturers, carriers and third parties.
Everything has to be in perfect sync to meet the expanding market need!
How the schedule and division of the work was made
The schedule consisted of the division of tasks and the people responsible for carrying them out. The detail of knowing the particularities of each team member was crucial, because for a good performance in each activity it was necessary to have key pieces that could work and mitigate the obstacles that could arise.
- Network row;
- Launching of fibers and fusion;
- CORE rooms;
- Server blocks.
Differentials
Close contact with the client was crucial for meeting the schedule and the success of the work, keeping the client close, we were able to understand their needs and surprise them at every stage of the project.
